Join us for the “Building Applications with Open Source LLMs for Fun and Profit” hackathon.

Dive deep into the world of large language models (LLMs) and demonstrate your expertise by fine-tuning these models for innovative applications.

Compete with teams, gain valuable insights from industry experts, and collaborate with fellow AI enthusiasts to push the boundaries of what open-source LLMs can achieve. 

We will focus on the City of Toronto’s publicly available data sets.

  2. You must create Lightning AI Studio directly here before July 12th 2024, 11:59 pm EST you’ll get 15 credits for 22 free GPU hours to participate in this Hackathon.

🔔 Judging Process

The judges will give each Submission a score based on the following:

  1. Innovation (Creativity, originality etc)

  2. Technical Achievement (Governance, performance, complexity etc) 

  3. Impact (business or society usability),

  4. The Presentation/Demo

Teams will strive to accomplish all checkpoints in the hackathon which include; 

  1. Problem Validation

  2. Environment setup

  3. Data set prep

  4. Training

  5. Evaluation

  6. User Interface

A hackathon is an event where programmers and AI enthusiasts collaborate intensively to innovate and develop new software or hardware projects. While websites and mobile apps are typical projects, participants are encouraged to explore any innovative idea they can imagine. Let your creativity soar!

The “Finetuning Open Source LLMs for Fun and Profit” hackathon will take place on July 13th, 2024, at the Centre for Social Innovation – Spadina, located at 192 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5T 2C2. The event will run from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

No worries! We will host a beginner workshop and provide mentors to guide teams through the hackathon process. There are also special prizes designated for beginners to encourage participation.
Absolutely! Leading up to the hackathon, we will host a series of livestreamed tech talks, workshops, and speaker events designed to build excitement and prepare participants. Stay updated on our schedule through our social media channels!

Yes! Everyone is welcome to participate.

To submit your registration for our hackathon, please visit Toronto Machine Learning Hackathon Registration and register. As part of the requirements, participants must have:

  • You must use and have an account on Lightning AI Studio
  • You must create Lightning AI Studio directly here before July 12th 2024, 11:59 pm EST you’ll get 15 credits for 22 free GPU hours to participate in this Hackathon.
  • You must agree to our Official Rules.
Teams can consist of up to 4 individuals. You will select your team members when you submit your project for the hackathon. Don’t have a team yet? No worries! We will host team formation events at the start of the weekend to help you connect with potential teammates.

In-Person Logistics FAQ

No, this hackathon is only available for in-person participation.
Yes, we will provide food! If you have dietary restrictions, please inform us when you confirm your spot so we can accommodate your needs. Additionally, there will be plenty of snacks available throughout the weekend.
